Matthew Rey

Detective Matthew Rey - 2019 Honoree

Matthew Rey began his career in the NYPD in July of 1996, and was assigned to the 42nd Precinct in the South Bronx, where he developed long lasting relationships with much of the community. As his career progressed, he jumped at the opportunity to become a Community Affairs Officer for the 42nd Precinct, the precinct where Renaissance is located, leading him to some of the most rewarding experiences of his 23 years with the NYPD.

Matthew met Mr. Harris and Mr. Q some 10 plus years ago, and has since become an integral part of Renaissance Youth Council, recruiting new participants and attending meetings regularly for several years. He has also supported Renaissance at numerous events every year, like our Youth Connect Summer Tour, "Music With A Message" Band performances, and our recent Youth Council Scholarship-A-Thon. Renaissance is recognizing Detective Rey for his years of service to the Bronx and New York City, and his work as a compassionate, dedicated community partner and advocate, a supporter of Renaissance's programming, and a mentor and leader for our students.
